Translation

O lord of the land of Vṛndāvana, glory to you! O companion of Umā, crowned with the moon, praised by Sanandana, Sanātana and Nārada! O Gopīśvara, give me pure love, free of every selfish motive, for the lotus feet of the Couple who play in Vraja. Obeisances to you again and again.

About Śrī Gopīśvara Mahādeva Praṇāma

Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura wrote this prayer as text 103 of his Saṅkalpa-kalpa-druma. In it he asks Lord Śiva, in his Vṛndāvana form as Gopīśvara, for only one gift: selfless love for the lotus feet of the Divine Couple who sport in Vraja. The opening words hide a play on sound: "soma soma-maule" means both "you who are with Umā" (sa-umā) and "you who wear the moon (soma) on your head". Gopīśvara Mahādeva has his temple near Vaṁśīvaṭa in Vṛndāvana. He is honoured as the kṣetra-pāla, the guardian of the holy land.
