About Śrī Govardhana Praṇāma
This short verse addresses Govardhana as Girirāja, "king of mountains", and asks nothing of him except that he be known for what he does: ending every distress and giving the highest joy. Pilgrims say it while walking the parikramā path around Govardhana and devotees say it before a Govardhana-śilā worshipped at home. Its source has not been traced; it is a traditional verse with no named author. The name Govardhana itself is often explained as "the one who nourishes the cows".
