Śrī Nityānanda Praṇāma
Nityānandam ahaṁ naumi — Obeisances to Lord Nityānanda
I praise Nityānanda, the supreme Lord who brings joy to everyone. He is the giver of Hari's holy name and the crown jewel of the avadhūtas, the saints who wander free of every worldly rule.
I bow to Nityānanda, from whose ear a pearl hangs. Appearing as the elder brother of Śrī Caitanya, He made the whole earth holy.
O Nityānanda, I bow to You, who give the joy of divine love and wash away the impurity of the age of Kali. Obeisances to You, the Lord of Jāhnavā.
Saṅkarṣaṇa, the Lord who rests on the Causal Ocean, the Lord who rests on the Garbha Ocean, the Lord who rests on the ocean of milk, and Śeṣa are all His aṁśas and kalās, His portions and the portions of those portions. May that Rāma who is called Nityānanda be my refuge.
About Śrī Nityānanda Praṇāma
The last of these four verses is Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta Ādi 1.7, where Śrīla Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī names Saṅkarṣaṇa, the three Viṣṇus who lie on the Kāraṇa, Garbha and milk oceans, and Śeṣa as expansions of Śrī Nityānanda Rāma. The first verse, which calls Him the giver of the holy name and the crown jewel of avadhūtas, is widely recited, but its source text is not known. The second opens a hymn of 108 names traditionally credited to Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, and the third, also of unknown source, honours Him as the husband of Śrī Jāhnavā Devī.
