Śrī Yamunā Devī Praṇāma
Jayati taraṇi-putrī — Glories of Śrī Yamunā Devī
Glory to the daughter of the sun, sister of Dharmarāja, who keeps company with Mathurā and goes beyond even the Gaṅgā. Beloved of the slayer of Mura, under the guise of her flowing waters she carries the honey that comes from His lotus feet.
About Śrī Yamunā Devī Praṇāma
In this verse Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī says that the Yamunā's flowing water is only a disguise: what she really carries is the honey (makaranda) from Kṛṣṇa's lotus feet. It is from the opening verses of his Bṛhad-bhāgavatāmṛta (1.1.6), next to his praise of Vṛndāvana and Govardhana. The verse names her family as Purāṇic tradition gives it, daughter of the sun-god and sister of Yamarāja (Dharmarāja). It also calls her Mathurā's friend and Murāri's beloved, and says she even surpasses the Gaṅgā.
