As he was pondering, there suddenly arose before him the form of Nrsimha — utterly terrifying.
His eyes were like molten gold, fierce; his face, framed by a mane of shimmering hair, gaped wide; his fangs were dreadful; his tongue flickered like a sharp sword blade; his face was fearsome with knitted brows.
His ears stood erect and rigid; his gaping mouth and nose were like a wondrous mountain cave; his jaws, opening wide, were terrifying; his body touched the sky; his neck was short and thick, his chest broad, his waist slender.
His body hairs were as white as moonbeams; he bore hundreds of arms on every side, armed with nails as his weapons; unapproachable, he routed the demons and danavas with the finest of all weapons, his own and others.

A dhyana, or meditation verse, describing Lord Nrsimhadeva's terrifying form as He suddenly appeared before Hiranyakasipu — molten-gold eyes, a mane-framed gaping face, a tongue flickering like a sword, a sky-touching body armed with hundreds of nail-tipped arms that alone, without any conventional weapon, routed the demons. Such dhyana verses are traditionally recited before Narasimha puja to fix the mind on the Lord's form prior to worship.
