While chanting the name of Govinda, a host of ecstatic feelings arose in me, and I saw, on the bank of the Yamuna, the best of dancers, dark Shyama, playing his flute at the foot of a kadamba tree, joyfully in the company of the daughter of King Vrishabhanu.
Seeing that treasure of the Divine Couple, my mind grew unsteady, and I lost all awareness at that very moment. I do not know how long it lasted; when I finally regained my senses, that vision was there no more.
About Gaite Govinda Nama
A brief, intensely personal kirtan by Bhaktivinoda Thakura describing a momentary vision, arising spontaneously while chanting Govinda's name, of Radha and Krishna together on the Yamuna's bank beneath a kadamba tree. The vision is so overwhelming that the poet loses consciousness, and on reviving finds it already gone, capturing the fleeting, grace-dependent nature of such darshan within bhajana.
