saṅkīrtana chale gaura nitā-i nagare bahira haila jagā-i mādhā-i yathā basiyāche tathā upanīta bhela
Translation

On the pretext of performing saṅkīrtana, Lord Gaura and Lord Nitāi brought the chanting-party out of the city, brought it to the place where Jagāi and Mādhāi stayed.

khola karatāla biṣama jañjāla bhābila se dona bhā-i māribāra tare surā-bhāṇḍa kare calila paścāt dhā-i
Translation

The tumultuous sounds of the kholas and karatālas aroused the two brothers, Jagāi and Mādhāi. Throwing broken pieces of clay wine-pots, they attacked the devotees. The devotees fled. The brothers gave chase.

prabhu nityānanda haridāsa āra dāṇḍā-ila hasta meli surā-bhāṇḍa kāndhā hātete āchila mādhā-i mārila pheli
Translation

Lord Nityānanda and Haridāsa stood there with folded hands. Mādhāi threw the broken piece of a wine-pot that he held in his hand and struck.

nitā-i lalāṭe se kāndhā lagila chūṭila śoṇita nadī tabu abadhūta kahe bhā-i āya taribi e bhaba yadi
Translation

The piece of pottery struck Lord Nitāi’s forehead, and a river of blood gushed out. Still the Avadhūta, Lord Nityānanda, says, “Come, brother, if you want to cross this ocean of birth and death,

āya de-i kola bola hari bola aya re mādhā-i bhā-i śyāma-dāsa kahe emana dayāla kona kāle dekhi na-i
Translation

then come, let Me embrace you. Say “Hari bol!” Come, O brother Mādhāi!” Śyāma dāsa says: Never have I seen anyone so merciful.
