Śrī Parama-guru-prabhu-varāṣṭakam
Prapanna-jananī-vṛti — Eight Prayers to the Grand-spiritual Master
When the field of those who have taken shelter burns in the fire of worldly existence, the matchless downpour of mercy from his eyes quickly puts out the blaze and makes it fit to become a clear pool of pure bhakti. May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
Hearing the stream of glories of the land of Vraja that flows from his lotus mouth, a person gives up husband or wife, children and home, and is drawn to live in a forest hut on the bank of the Yamunā. May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
How does one attain the fullness of the bhāva of the lotus-eyed girls of Vraja? How can one follow in their footsteps? What is the practice for this, and who is qualified for it? Who can understand these things clearly without the good fortune of his instruction? May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
In assemblies of ascetics, renunciants, ritualists and logicians, each proud of displaying learning in his own doctrine, he shines by the power of his bhakti like the sun in darkness. May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
"What shall Madana-mohana, who outshines millions of Cupids, wear today together with Rādhā? What shall They be fed?" Thinking in this way, he always spends all eight periods of the day in the service of his beloved Deity. May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
In sweet kīrtana with mṛdaṅga and karatālas he makes fortunate people dance, and dancing himself he sinks into an ocean of joy. Covered with goosebumps, he bathes in his own tears. May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
Together with the Lord's devotees he savours again and again the rasa described in the foremost scriptures of bhakti and gives his companions a taste of it. Surrounded by hundreds of his disciples, he shines gloriously under the name "Cakravartī". May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
He lives on the bank of the Gaṅgā, and Madana-mohana is his very life. He longs for the company of rasikas, is skilled at uplifting people, turns away from those absorbed in sense objects, and is quick to forgive those who follow him. May that master, Kṛṣṇa-caraṇa, bestow the nectar of his feet.
Any follower of his who recites this aṣṭaka of the best of masters, with his mind fixed on his lotus feet, joyfully comes to possess prema. Becoming the special object of the great mercy of the charming sakhīs who nourish the Divine Couple's pastimes, he very soon serves the two Lords of the nikuñja.
