Śrī Rādhā-kuṇḍa Praṇāma

Yathā rādhā priyā viṣṇos — Obeisances to Śrī Rādhā-kuṇḍa

yathā rādhā priyā viṣṇos tasyāḥ kuṇḍaṁ priyaṁ tathā sarva-gopīṣu saivaikā viṣṇor atyanta-vallabhā
Translation

Rādhā is dear to Viṣṇu, and in the same way Her kuṇḍa is dear to Him. Of all the gopīs, She alone is the one He loves beyond measure.

kṛṣṇasyoccaiḥ praṇaya-vasatiḥ preyasībhyo 'pi rādhā kuṇḍaṁ cāsyā munibhir abhitas tādṛg eva vyadhāyi yat preṣṭhair apy alam asulabhaṁ kiṁ punar bhakti-bhājāṁ tat premedaṁ sakṛd api saraḥ snātur āviṣkaroti
Translation

Above even His other beloveds, Rādhā is the highest home of Kṛṣṇa's love, and the sages have declared Her pond to be just as dear to Him in every way. A love that even His dearest companions can hardly reach, to say nothing of ordinary devotees, this lake reveals to anyone who bathes in it even once.

About Śrī Rādhā-kuṇḍa Praṇāma

The Padma Purāṇa verse that opens this page puts Rādhā and Her pond side by side: each is as dear to Kṛṣṇa as the other. Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī quotes it three times in Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Ādi 4.215, Madhya 8.99 and 18.8). The second verse is the eleventh and last verse of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī's Upadeśāmṛta. It promises that even one bath in Rādhā-kuṇḍa reveals a love that Kṛṣṇa's dearest associates find hard to reach. Pilgrims recite these verses before bathing in the kuṇḍa, above all at midnight on Bahulāṣṭamī, the day it appeared.
