Translation

I bow to Mādhavendra. To give him a pot of sweet rice, Gopīnātha stole it and so came to be called Kṣīra-corā, the sweet-rice thief; and Śrī Gopāla, captured by his love, came forward and showed Himself.

About Śrīla Mādhavendra Purī Praṇāma

This verse opens the fourth chapter of Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta Madhya-līlā, where Śrīla Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī tells the story of Śrīla Mādhavendra Purī. It holds two pastimes in four lines: the Deity Gopīnātha at Remuṇā hid a pot of sweet rice for him and so became known as Kṣīra-corā, 'the thief of sweet rice', and Śrī Gopāla at Govardhana, won over by his love, revealed Himself to the world. Because it closes with a direct obeisance, 'nato 'smi', 'I bow down', devotees use it as his praṇāma.
