Śrīla Narottama Dāsa Ṭhākura Praṇāma
Śrī-kṛṣṇa-nāmāmṛta-varṣi-vaktra — Obeisances to Śrīla Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura
Again and again I bow to Śrīla Narottama, follower of Lord Gaurāṅga. From his moonlike face rains the nectar of Śrī Kṛṣṇa's names, and its light has scattered the thick darkness.
About Śrīla Narottama Dāsa Ṭhākura Praṇāma
This is the first verse of the Śrī Narottamāṣṭaka, eight verses that Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura wrote in praise of Śrīla Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura and that are collected in his Stavāmṛta-laharī. Its picture is of a moonlike face that rains down the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's names, its light breaking up a heavy mass of darkness. Narottama, a follower of Śrī Caitanya through Śrīla Lokanātha Gosvāmī, wrote the Bengali songs that still fill Gauḍīya kīrtana, and Viśvanātha came in his line through Narottama's disciple Gaṅgānārāyaṇa Cakravartī.
