Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī Praṇāma

Yaṁ pravrajantam — Obeisances to Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī

yaṁ pravrajantam anupetam apeta-kṛtyaṁ dvaipāyano viraha-kātara ājuhāva putreti tan-mayatayā taravo 'bhinedus taṁ sarva-bhūta-hṛdayaṁ munim ānato 'smi
Translation

I bow down to the sage who lives in the heart of every being. He left home to wander as a renunciant before receiving the sacred thread, with no duty left to bind him. His father Dvaipāyana, stricken by the pain of parting, called after him, "My son!" and the trees, one with him in feeling, gave the answer.

yaḥ svānubhāvam akhila-śruti-sāram ekam adhyātma-dīpam atititīrṣatāṁ tamo 'ndham saṁsāriṇāṁ karuṇayāha purāṇa-guhyaṁ taṁ vyāsa-sūnum upayāmi guruṁ munīnām
Translation

I come for shelter to the son of Vyāsa, teacher of all sages. Moved by compassion for worldly souls who long to cross beyond blind darkness, he spoke this secret treasure among the Purāṇas: the one essence of every Veda, a lamp that lights up the self, filled with what he himself had realised.

sva-sukha-nibhṛta-cetās tad-vyudastānya-bhāvo 'py ajita-rucira-līlākṛṣṭa-sāras tadīyam vyatanuta kṛpayā yas tattva-dīpaṁ purāṇaṁ tam akhila-vṛjina-ghnaṁ vyāsa-sūnuṁ nato 'smi
Translation

His mind was full and at rest in the bliss of the self, and every other state of being had fallen away from him. Even so, the charming pastimes of the unconquerable Lord drew his heart, and in mercy he spread abroad this Purāṇa, a lamp that shows the truth about that Lord. I bow to the son of Vyāsa, who destroys all sin.

About Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī Praṇāma

In the first verse the young Śukadeva walks away from home to live as a renunciant, his father Vyāsa cries out "My son!", and only the trees answer. All three verses are from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Sūta Gosvāmī speaks the first two (1.2.2-3) at Naimiṣāraṇya, before he begins to answer the sages' questions. The third (12.12.69) comes near the very end of the Bhāgavatam. It tells how Śukadeva, already content in the bliss of the self, was drawn by Kṛṣṇa's pastimes and spoke the Purāṇa out of mercy.
