Kārpaṇya pañjikā — A Record book of Appeals for Mercy

Karpanya-panjika, an almanac of humility, is the shortest section in Gita-mala by a wide margin: a single song, set against Yamuna-bhavavali's twenty-seven and Rupanuga-bhajana-darpana's twenty-nine on either side of it. Bhaktivinoda Thakura built it from a prayer in the Stava-mala, a collection of Sanskrit devotional hymns by Rupa Gosvami, one of the six Vrindavana Gosvamis and the principal theological authority behind Gaudiya Vaishnavism's understanding of rasa, devotional mellow. Where the preceding section had drawn on a source from outside Bhaktivinoda's own Gaudiya lineage, this one turns to a source at its very center, marking a deliberate shift before Gita-mala moves into Soka-satana, its narrative section recounting a specific episode from Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's own life.
