Śrī Advaita Praṇāma
Mahā-viṣṇur jagat-kartā — Obeisances to Śrī Advaita Ācārya
Mahā-Viṣṇu is the maker of the world; through His energy māyā He brings this universe into being. The Lord Advaita Ācārya is His avatāra.
Being one with Hari, He bears the name Advaita; spreading the message of bhakti, He bears the name Ācārya. He is the Lord Himself, descended in the form of a devotee, and I take shelter of Him, Śrī Advaita Ācārya.
About Śrī Advaita Praṇāma
The second verse explains both halves of Śrī Advaita Ācārya's name: He is 'Advaita', not separate, because He is one with Hari, and 'Ācārya', teacher, because He proclaims bhakti. Both verses come from the opening of Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Ādi 1.12 and 1.13), where Śrīla Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī honours each member of the Pañca-tattva in turn. The first verse identifies Advaita with Mahā-Viṣṇu, who creates the world through māyā, and Kavirāja Gosvāmī repeats it at the start of Ādi-līlā chapter 6, the chapter on Śrī Advaita's glories.
