Śrī Hanumān Praṇāma
Mano-javaṁ māruta-tulya-vegaṁ — Obeisances to Śrī Hanumān
I take shelter of Śrī Rāma's messenger. He moves as fast as the mind and as swiftly as the wind, he has conquered his senses and is the best of the wise. He is the son of the wind-god and the chief among the monkey hosts.
About Śrī Hanumān Praṇāma
This verse is number 33 of the Rāma-rakṣā-stotra, the protective hymn to Lord Rāma ascribed to the sage Budha-kauśika. In four lines it gives Hanumān's whole character: swift as the mind and fast as the wind, master of his senses, wisest of the wise, son of the wind-god and leader of the monkey troops, and it ends by taking shelter of him as Śrī Rāma's messenger. Many people recite a variant ending, 'śrī-rāma-dūtaṁ śirasā namāmi', which bows to him with the head instead.
