Śrī Navadvīpa Dhāma Praṇāma
Śrutic-chāndogyākhyā vadati — Obeisances to Śrī Navadvīpa Dhāma
The śruti called Chāndogya speaks of it as the supreme city of Brahman; the smṛti names it Vaikuṇṭha, the home of Viṣṇu; others call it the White Island, and the rare one who tastes rasa knows it as the forest of Vraja. Here I bow to that Navadvīpa, the home of supreme bliss.
About Śrī Navadvīpa Dhāma Praṇāma
Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura opens his Śrī Navadvīpa-dhāma-māhātmya with twenty Sanskrit verses of praise, and this is the first. All twenty end with the same line: "Here I bow to Navadvīpa, the home of supreme bliss." In this verse he gathers the names that different traditions give the same holy place: the Chāndogya Upaniṣad's city of Brahman, the smṛtis' Vaikuṇṭha, the White Island (Śvetadvīpa) of others, and the forest of Vraja known to rare relishers of rasa. For him, all of these are found in Navadvīpa.
