Translation

I was blind and had no wish to drink the nectar of devotion joined with detachment, yet with great effort he made me drink it. He is an ocean of mercy who feels pain at the pain of others. I take shelter of that master, Sanātana.

About Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī Praṇāma

Śrīla Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī wrote this verse about his own life, as verse 6 of his Vilāpa-kusumāñjali in the Stavāvalī. He admits that he was blind and did not even want the nectar of bhakti joined with renunciation, yet Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī made him drink it through patient effort. Calling Sanātana an ocean of mercy who suffers when others suffer, he takes shelter of him as his master. It is one of the few praṇāmas in which the speaker recalls how he was personally helped by the one he honours.
