Viraha Aṣṭāṣṭaka — Eight Octets in Separation from My Spiritual Master, December 1958

Srila Prabhupada's Viraha Aṣṭāṣṭaka, also known as Virahastakam: eight octets (65 verses in all) written in separation from his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, around the anniversary of his disappearance. Each octet is a song of its own below, with the Bengali verses, English translation and, for the first, audio. The first seven close with the same refrain, "O Srila Prabhupada! You personally suffer to see the suffering of the fallen conditioned souls. On this day of your separation I am utterly despondent." Read in order, they move from the flood of Krishna-prema released by Lord Nityananda and Srila Prabhupada, through the scattering of the mission after Bhaktisiddhanta's departure, to the last octet, "If Only You Would Come Again", which ends with the author's signature, Abhay.
