Śrī Nāma Māhātmya — The Glories of the Holy Name

Sri Nama Mahatmya, the glory of the holy name, stands as its own short section within Saranagati, a single eight-verse song asking directly how much power the name of Krishna actually carries. Bhaktivinoda Thakura wrote extensively elsewhere, particularly in his later prose works, about the holy name as non-different from Krishna Himself — a claim central to Gaudiya Vaishnava theology since Caitanya Mahaprabhu's own teaching — and this song brings that same conviction directly into Saranagati's broader argument about surrender, treating the act of chanting itself as inseparable from taking shelter. Its placement near the end of the book, after the sections on the six limbs of surrender and on devotional longing, suggests that for Bhaktivinoda the holy name was not a separate topic from surrender but its natural, ongoing practice.
