Sambandha abhidheya prayojana — The Soul's Relationship with the Supreme Lord, His Activities in that Relationship, and the final Goal of Life

This section takes its name from one of Gaudiya Vaishnavism's foundational theological frameworks: sambandha, a soul's actual relationship to Krishna; abhidheya, the process by which that relationship is cultivated; and prayojana, the ultimate goal that process leads to. Its opening song, at fifty-eight verses, is the longest single piece anywhere on this site, using one sustained composition rather than several shorter songs to lay out this entire three-part theology systematically — functioning almost as a condensed theological treatise set to song, addressed once more to the mind as the rest of Updesa had been. A brief, two-verse companion song follows, restating the same material in miniature, before the section turns to specific metaphysical questions, including the foundational Gaudiya Vaishnava distinction between cit and jada, spirit and matter, that underlies the soul's whole relationship to Krishna. The section closes on personal resolve rather than further abstraction, moving from theological framework toward the concrete decision to actually take up devotional practice, before Kalyana-Kalpataru turns to Prarthana-Dainyamayi, its section of humble prayer.
