Nama kīrtana — Chanting of the Holy Names

Nama-kirtana holds two songs that stand somewhat apart from the rest of Kalyana-Kalpataru's clearly defined three-part structure, and both are, individually, considerably more famous than their small, two-song section might suggest. One song is Vibhavari Sesa, 'the night has ended' — a call to rise before dawn that follows the same melody used for Udilo Aruna, and that has become, alongside it, one of the standard songs sung during mangala-arati, the pre-dawn temple ceremony, in Gaudiya Vaishnava temples generally. The other, Kali Kukkura Kadan, is formally a nama-kirtana in praise of Caitanya Mahaprabhu's own names, moving through several of His titles in turn and describing His power to deliver the fearful and fallen. Both songs also appear, on this site, under a different book's listing, Songs of Vaishnava Acaryas — evidence, as with a similar pair of songs in Gitavali, that several of Bhaktivinoda Thakura's most enduringly popular songs circulated across more than one published collection during his own lifetime rather than staying fixed to a single book.
