Līlā kīrtana — Chanting the Glories of the Lord's Pastimes

Lila-kirtana, glorification of Krishna's pastimes, closes with an image of Krishna on the bank of the Yamuna, the river central to His pastimes throughout Vaishnava literature — the single most recorded song across the whole of this Kalyana-Kalpataru project, bringing the book, after its long movement through instruction, self-examination, prayer, and glorification, to Krishna's own most intimate pastoral landscape rather than to further argument, just before the single song of Rasa-kirtana that closes the book. Its opening song describes Hari of Goloka, Krishna's own eternal abode in Gaudiya Vaishnava cosmology, showing mercy to the souls of this world by revealing the love of Vraja, and warns that these pastimes, the same eternal lila made manifest in the earthly Vrindavana, must never be taken as material — a theme that recurs across several of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura's other songbooks and prose writings as well.
