Locana dāsa

Srila Locana Dasa Thakura, born around 1520 in the village of Kograma, was a disciple of Srila Narahari Sarkar Thakura — a connection this site's own records cannot fully verify against its separate Narahari dasa chapter elsewhere in this book, given the naming ambiguity already noted there. Srila Locana Dasa Thakura's own major and independently documented work is the Chaitanya-mangala, a full biographical account of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's life written at his guru's order and based on Srila Murari Gupta's earlier Sanskrit biography; Srila Vrndavana Dasa Thakura's earlier biography of Mahaprabhu had first carried the same title, and according to the Prema-vilasa the leading Vaishnavas of Vrindavana then decided that Srila Vrndavana Dasa Thakura's book would be known as the Chaitanya-bhagavata, while Srila Locana Dasa Thakura's kept the name Chaitanya-mangala. The six songs gathered here under his signature move beyond gaura-candrika into more varied territory, including a narrative song touching on Lakshmi Devi.
